Smarter Work Zones

Crowd Sourced Data for Smarter Work Zones

The use of crowd sourced data is also a more cost effective method for Smart Work Zones due to the reduction of physical equipment, as well as the economies of scale of purchasing large blocks of 3rd party data.
With the advent of Smart Phones and the Connected Car, vehicles traveling with internet connected devices are providing a staggering amount of real-time data that can be used in ever expanding applications.
Cloud PCMS believes these devices provide enough real-time data to meet the  functional requirements of current DOT specifications for Queue Warning Systems.
Traditional “Smart Work Zones” rely on the deployment, setup, and protection of portable traffic sensors placed prior to or within work zones where Queuing is expected. These systems are expensive and are vulnerable to damage and theft. Cloud PCMS wants to change that.

How It Works

As vehicles move along predefined roadways, data is collected from internet connected devices and sent back to 3rd party mapping services. Cloud PCMS uses that data and applies algorithms to determine traffic conditions and publishes that data to a cloud-based queue warning and delay notification system.

The Cloud PCMS system creates a virtual project overlaid on a Google Maps™ web-based platform. Then plots out the exact location of the queue warning signs and the sections of road for which traffic data will be pulled. The system is loaded with the specification details predetermined by DOT, including message board location(s), work zone start and end points, and trigger points for various messages.
Each defineable perameter of the DOT specifications can be laid out in a virtual setup. Once complete, physical equipment can be deployed and activated in a matter of minutes.
